about

The first tune in the set was written by John Moorehead in 1799 and originally titled ‘The Naval Pillar’. Its appearance in, and subsequent association with, the comedy melodrama 'Speed the Plough' resulted in its rechristening as of the year 1800. Moorehead committed suicide shortly after. Also featured is Fairy Dance, a popular Irish session tune, which we arranged to be played at breakneck speed so Steve and Chris could practise their triplets!
